Parking is a pain. You can spend more time looking for a space than browsing the shops. Is there a better way? Here’s my JustPark review, with answers to the most common questions.

JustPark has taken a problem every big city faces and found a business that solves it. It’s a concept I believe in.

What is JustPark?

JustPark is a UK app and website for booking parking in advance. It says it’s trusted by more than 13 million drivers and lists over 100,000 bookable spaces.

It’s part of the sharing economy, where people trade goods and services directly with each other. JustPark connects drivers looking for parking with anyone who has a space going spare, whether that’s a car park, a private driveway, a church, a school or a pub.

So if you have a parking space, such as your driveway, you can rent it out. If you need a space, the app shows you the nearest ones and what they cost.

How much does JustPark charge?

  • Space owners: listing is free. JustPark says there are no upfront costs or monthly fees. It takes a service fee from each booking.
  • Drivers: the price depends on the location and demand at that time. JustPark’s service fee is included in the total you see at checkout.

How are prices set?

  1. The space owner sets the price they want. JustPark’s calculator gives a guide based on local demand.
  2. JustPark adds its service fee to cover the cost of running the platform.
  3. The driver pays the total.

How payments work

All payments happen online:

  1. The driver pays in full when booking, by card or PayPal.
  2. JustPark holds the money for a short period after the booking starts in case of a dispute, then releases it to the space owner.

If there’s a problem, JustPark can refund the driver or hold the funds while it investigates.

JustPark cancellation policy

  • Driver cancels more than 24 hours before the start: you get a refund. On bookings over £50, or when you cancel more than 21 days ahead, it goes back to your card. Smaller bookings are refunded to your JustPark Wallet.
  • Driver cancels less than 24 hours before the start: no refund.
  • Space owner cancels: the driver gets a full refund, including the transaction fee.

Read the full rules on JustPark’s cancellation policy page.

Who is JustPark good for?

Drivers: JustPark takes away the stress of finding a space. With JustPark you can:

  • Save money: private driveways near stations, airports and stadiums are often cheaper than official car parks.
  • Save time: pre-book and a space is waiting when you arrive.
  • Forget about change: everything is paid in the app.
  • Get support: JustPark has a customer support team for problems.
  • Avoid tickets: a booked space means no worrying about overstaying a meter.

Space owners: you get paid for a driveway or parking spot that would otherwise sit empty.

Is JustPark legit?

Yes. JustPark has been running since 2006, when it launched as ParkatmyHouse. Payments go through its own secure system. It has been backed by BMW’s venture arm and the venture capital firm Index Ventures, and thousands of ordinary investors bought shares through crowdfunding rounds.

As with eBay, problems between drivers and owners happen from time to time. JustPark has a team to sort them out, and it says drivers are verified with licence plate checks.

Save money on parking with JustPark

Booking a space takes three steps:

  1. Search: browse spaces on the website or app. Filter by date, time, distance, price and type of space.
  2. Book: choose a space and pay online by card or PayPal. You can message the owner with questions.
  3. Park: head to your space and get on with your day. JustPark is handy near stadiums, airports, stations, hospitals and city centres.

Earn money with JustPark

Ever thought of your driveway as wasted space? With JustPark it can earn you money.

Homeowners with driveways, garages and private spaces can earn from a patch of tarmac that earned nothing before. The more spaces you have, the more you can earn. The more secure they are, the more you can charge. A locked garage where the driver takes the key commands a higher price.

Listing takes three steps:

  1. List your space for free: sign up, write a short description, add a photo and set your price and availability.
  2. Wait for bookings: JustPark tells you whenever a driver books.
  3. Get paid: JustPark handles the payments and sends your earnings to your bank account.

Do you pay tax on JustPark earnings?

Income from renting out a parking space counts as property income. The first £1,000 a year is tax-free under the property allowance. Above that, you need to register for Self Assessment and declare it. The Rent a Room scheme doesn’t cover parking spaces.

Before you list, check that your mortgage lender, freeholder or landlord allows it. Some leases and tenancy agreements ban letting out parking.

My experience with JustPark

I rented out my parking space for several months and found it a good little earner.

I didn’t have any problems. Every driver who booked my space left on time, and nobody tried to park without a booking.

I’ve also booked spaces myself. It’s especially useful when I commute to the London office or head to Wembley to watch England. Pre-booking means I don’t have to hunt for a space when I arrive, and it saves me a lot on parking in and around London.

JustPark has used technology to ease a real problem. I’ll keep listing my space and booking spaces when I travel.

I’d recommend JustPark as an easy way to make and save money with parking. You can sign up for free here or through the banner below.
