The sharing economy has created new ways to earn extra income. You can rent out a spare room on Airbnb, rent your driveway or let out storage space. Another idea is to rent out space on your car for advertising.

Car Quids is a UK company that pays drivers to display adverts on their cars. In this review, we look at how it works and whether it’s worth it.

Update, October 2026: the Car Quids website is still online and says drivers can earn “up to £100 a month”. It doesn’t show how many campaigns are currently running, so you may sign up and wait a long time before being matched with an advertiser.

What is Car Quids?

Car Quids matches drivers with brands that want to advertise on cars. Drivers are paid each month to display the adverts. For advertisers, it’s a way to reach people in particular towns and cities as the cars are driven around.

How does Car Quids work?

  1. Sign up: you register on the Car Quids website with details about yourself, your car and how and where you drive.
  2. Get matched: when an advertiser wants cars in your area or with your driving pattern, Car Quids contacts you. You can decline any advert you’re not comfortable with.
  3. Fit the advert: if you agree, Car Quids arranges for vinyl adverts to be fitted at a nearby fitting centre. In some cases, a GPS tracker is fitted too.
  4. Get paid: each month, you send photos of your car and its mileage. Car Quids may also check GPS data. Payment goes into your bank account monthly.

How much can you earn?

Car Quids says drivers can earn up to £100 a month. What you actually earn depends on the advertiser, the size of the advert and how much you drive. Many drivers who sign up may not be matched with a campaign at all.

Pros of Car Quids

  • Regular monthly income, with little extra effort once the advert is fitted.
  • You can refuse adverts you don’t like.
  • Fitting is arranged for you.

Cons and things to check

  • No guaranteed work: you only earn when an advertiser picks your car.
  • Privacy: some campaigns use GPS tracking, so the company and advertiser can see where you drive.
  • Insurance: tell your car insurer about the advert. Some insurers treat it as a modification, and not declaring it could affect a claim.
  • Paintwork: ask how the vinyl is removed and who pays if the paint is damaged, especially on a leased or finance car, where you may need the finance company’s permission.
  • Tax: payments count as income. If your total income from side hustles is over £1,000 a year, you may need to tell HMRC.

Is Car Quids legit?

Car Quids appears to be a genuine business that has run campaigns for brands such as online estate agent eMoov and car rental firm easyCar. Before you sign up, check recent reviews and read the terms carefully.

Be wary of anyone else who contacts you offering to pay you to “wrap” your car. Car wrap scams are common: fraudsters send a fake cheque, ask you to pay part of it to a “wrapping company”, and the cheque later bounces. A genuine company will never ask you to send money.
