Great Website you have here. I have been reading your website for a while now and finally have enough money to start investing. Like you, I have chosen to build the base of my portfolio using high quality dividend paying stocks. What better blue chip stable and steady stock is there than Coca Cola. The problem is there are many different Coca Cola shares listed on the market I am not sure which is the proper one.
This was an email I received from a reader. I have published the above with his consent as I feel like a number of new investors would find this question useful. When I started out investing, I too was confused about which Coca Cola stock to buy.
There are a number of different companies or enterprises that have the Coca Cola Name. The following are the ones listed on the stock exchange. I have put the ticker symbols (stock market symbols) in brackets.
- The Coca Cola Company (KO)
- Coca Cola European Partners PLC (CCEP)
- Coca Cola Femsa S.A.B. de C.V. (KOF)
- Coca-Cola Bottling Co. Consolidated (COKE)
- Coca cola Hellenic Bottling Company (CCH)
As you can see, there is at least five companies to chose from. It is very easy to get confused about which Coca Cola stock to buy
Let’s look at the above list to see the different Coca Cola companies.
The Coca Cola Company (KO) is the company the actually owns the secret coca cola recipe and owns all the brands – and this is the company you hear most about. This is the company that has its headquarters in Atlanta. This is the company I own shares in. Warren Buffet also owns the shares of this company.
As for the other four companies on the list, they are simply bottlers.
So what happens is that The Coca-Cola Company (KO) produces the concentrate which it then ships to the various bottlers around the world who then mix it with water, package it and sell it.
The bottlers all operate under their own jurisdictions.
For example .Coca Cola Femsa S.A.B. de C.V. (KOF) operate in Mexico, Columbia. Venezuela, Brazil, Argentina and the Philippines.
Coca cola Hellenic Bottling Company (CCH) operates in Austria, Cyprus, Greece, Italy, Northern Ireland, Republic of Ireland, Switzerland, Croatia, the Czech Republic, Estonia, Hungary, Latvia, Lithuania, Poland, Slovakia, Slovenia, Armenia, Belarus, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Bulgaria, Former Yugoslav Republic of Macedonia, Moldova, Montenegro, Nigeria, Romania, Russian Federation, Serbia and Ukraine.
So whilst the bottlers operate in only certain geographies or locations, The Coca Cola Company (KO) as provider of the secret syrup operates in all these countries.
